Joseph Michael Cardillo, age 77 passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018. Born in Brooklyn New York, Joseph was the son of Geraldo and Maria Cardillo. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Lucille Cardillo, sister Lucille Denis and Nephew Joe Denis.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Kathy Cardillo of Myrtle Beach, his son and daughter in-law Gerard and Kim Cardillo of Leesburg Va., daughters Laura Casano of Howard Beach NY and Lidia Rodriguez of Wantagh NY and their respective spouses John and Joe, grandchildren Jake and Nicole Cardillo, Annamarie and Rosemarie Casano, Jennifer and JP Rodriguez and step daughter, Stacy Zimmerman.
Joseph became a New York City Police Officer in 1964 serving in the Harlem riots, was the first car on the scene at the shooting of John Lennon and served his final seven years at Lincoln Center before retiring in 1984. Joseph was a founding member of the Coastal Carolina Shields, an organization for current and retired Law Enforcement Officers now residing in North and South Carolina. He was an avid and professional coin collector who loved boating, long rides with his wife and friends on his custom motorcycle, antique car shows, yard sales, socializing and traveling.
Always smiling and quick to tell a joke or story, Joseph was beloved by all for his innate and rare ability to listen, give his counsel and simply share a beer.
For all the reasons mentioned above, we will be taking the opportunity to celebrate his full life and the wonderful memories he left us with. The celebration of life will be on January 4th, 2019 at 11:00 am at Inlet affairs in Murrells Inlet, SC where he and Kathy were married in 2009.
